About Sceye

Impact at every step

Sceye is an aerospace company with a background in material science leading the industry of high-altitude platform systems (HAPS) to uplift and connect all people and protect our planet.

Sceye’s success has been built on a meticulous iterative development and testing process combined with extensive flight experience, allowing us to create the most advanced product in the HAPS sector and the first platform designed for sustained flight in the stratosphere.

Our engineering team has a wealth of diverse expertise that combines the best of America’s Cup, aerospace and advanced academic research.

We chose the form factor of an airship over balloons and fixed wing aircrafts as it allows the HAPS to stay over an area of operation for extended periods of time while lifting and powering far more payload than any other platform.

Sceye is solar powered during the day and battery powered at night. We don’t rely on rocket fuel like satellites or single use plastics like balloons.

Working with our global partners, our mission is to connect and protect our planet from the stratosphere.

Our story

Sceye was founded in 2014 by Mikkel Vestergaard Frandsen. Prior to founding Sceye, Mikkel established himself as one of the most successful humanitarian entrepreneurs, with the companies Vestergaard and Lifestraw. Vestergaard has distributed more than 1 billion insecticide-treated nets, helping reduce the annual deaths from malaria to less than half. Lifestraw and its innovative water filter has led to the near eradication of the guinea worm while providing clean drinking water to more than 11 million children.

The background in material science has been crucial for Sceye as the company has developed novel ways to retain helium, store energy and reduce the weight of all critical components onboard the HAPS and close the power loop. These innovations have been essential in building a platform designed to continue a legacy of humanitarian impact at grand scale.

Our hangar is placed in Southern New Mexico, which has one of the strongest legacies in stratospheric flight anywhere in the world, including multiple record-breaking flights.

Our vision is to unleash the possibilities in the stratosphere, to uplift and connect all people and protect our planet.
